“You shouldn’t have to think about your feet when you walk.”
What do you do if you promote foot health and your foot hurts? You take your own advice and make an appointment to see a podiatrist. I couldn’t pinpoint the pain in my heel but Dr. Brady-Thomas, DPM smiled when she told me she was pretty good at finding foot pain. She was right, it only took a couple of pushes on my heel before, ouchie! she found the pain. She had me stand and checked my hip alignment as well as how my feet looked as I stood. It took her a split second to discern which one of my feet was the largest and flattest. It was after that, as we were chatting and she was examining my x-ray that she told me, “You shouldn’t have to think about your feet when you walk.”
We go about our day with little to no thought about our feet and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Our feet are our primary mode of transportation but when they hurt, everything hurts. The life of a podiatrist is not glamorous but what they do is pretty important because they help keep us on our feet, pain-free. Dr. Brady-Thomas provided me with a lot of solutions for my foot pain. Some solutions, like rolling my foot on a tennis ball or an iced bottle of water, and foot exercises, don’t cost anything. Other solutions ranged from arthritis relief gel to slippers with arch support. In all, for little to no money, my foot feels much better. So if your feet begin to hurt, and they hurt nearly every day, find a podiatrist and make an appointment. The sooner you seek professional care for your foot pain, the sooner you’ll feel better. Giving our feet what they need with a little extra TLC before we put them to work each day helps ensure we won’t have to think about them when we walk. August 17 is I LOVE My Feet Day! so don’t miss that opportunity to do something extra special for your feet, and enjoy your walk!
