Let’s Do It For Those We Love This Holiday

COVID19 has changed everything. The carefree social lives we enjoyed before, going to the gym, team building events at work, play dates for our kids, attending sporting events, going to the theater, and eating in crowded restaurants are memories for many people. With the pandemic raging for more than nine months, and more than 240,000 American lives gone, we’re approaching the biggest holidays of the year. Holiday gatherings with family and friends are a source of love and renewal for us. This year, due to COVID19,  they come with more than the usual stress.

Before traveling to family gatherings this holiday season, and reaching out for those priceless hugs, keep a few things in mind.

  1. Asymptomatic people can have COVID19, and make others ill with the virus, without ever exhibiting any signs of having the virus themselves.
  2. People with underlying conditions are at a greater risk for COVID19.
  3. Many of our beloved senior citizens have underlying conditions.
  4. Some underlying conditions include heart disease, diabetes, obesity, neurological disorders, and compromised immune systems.
  5. Sacrifice is an expression of love.

Holiday gatherings via Zoom may not deliver the heartfelt hugs we all want, but they can help us create new joyous traditions. Using Zoom or the telephone to communicate and experience our gatherings can also help ensure we’ll be here next year to share our pandemic survival stories.

If your loved ones make the sacrifice to postpone their holiday hugs this year, they are giving the most precious gift of all, love. I’ll miss sharing the holidays with my grandchildren this year but we’ll enjoy football games, parades, and our holiday meals together via Zoom.

Since we always share tips to improve foot health, remember that taking a few minutes to give your feet extra TLC during the holiday season is a very effective way to reduce stress. Foot massages, DIY pedicures, and soaking your feet are easy ways to improve our mood and foot health. Simply filling a small tub with warm water and adding Epson salt or a scented bubble bath has a calming effect. Below are links with additional foot care tips you can use to de=stress.

This holiday season, let’s make a pact with our loved ones. Let’s sacrifice the hugs this year and hug one another like crazy when this pandemic is over. Stay healthy and happy holidays!

She is an award winning author, the founder of The Jenkins Donelson Foundation, JDF, the creator annual National I LOVE My Feet Day!,and the Health and Wellness site found here, on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, entitled I LOVE My Feet DayS! Carolyn's interest in feet began in college when she met a young lady who was born without arms. The student used her feet as hands by writing and eating with them. Everyone on campus was very impressed with that students' ability to overcome adversity and the respect and awe she garnered was well deserved. Carolyn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and never forgot the young lady. Carolyn learned about the importance of good foot care from her mother, who was a diabetic. After Carolyn experienced foot pain she visited a podiatrist and discovered she had fallen arches. Carolyn traced the cause back to wearing flip flops that didn't provide arch support. Years later, after two pinky toe breaks, Carolyn's appreciation and respect for feet deepened and she wrote an ode to feet. In the spring of 2015 a talented illustrator brought her poem to life and Carolyn published My Feet: An Ode, which celebrates the wonderful versatility our feet provide us throughout our lifetime. Publishing My Feet: An Ode led to annual recognition of good foot care and appreciation. It was also the impetus for the Good Foot Care movement. Carolyn believes our feet tell a story about our lives. She is passionate about promoting good foot care and she is quickly becoming the " Ambassador of Feet". She is a Foot & Shoe Consultant and refers countless people to podiatrists. Carolyn is also the author of the award winning laugh out loud children's series, The Family Adventures of Princess Ladybug and Princess Ladybird. The series focuses on young siblings who are raised in separate households. Carolyn wrote two ebooks to help consumers purchase footwear.
