Prediabetes? Change course and back it up!
Prediabetes is a warning sign and you can help control the results! Unlike Type 1 diabetes which many children and young people manage throughout their lives, prediabetes is a Type 2 diabetes warning sign. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Prediabetes means you have a higher than normal blood sugar level. It’s not high enough to be considered type 2 diabetes but without lifestyle changes, adults and children with prediabetes are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.”
Put it in reverse!
A diagnosis of prediabetes means you’re in the driver’s seat and you can help your body change course! Although genetics plays a role in diabetes, changing your diet and beginning a regular exercise routine can make a big impact in preventing the disease. Diabetes can lead to kidney and heart disease, vision problems, and nerve damage to your feet. Diabetes is still one of the leading causes of lower limb amputation so preventing this chronic illness should be a high priority on everyone’s list.
What are the warning signs for prediabetes? Great question! Unfortunately, there are no hard and fast signs of prediabetes but a combination of the warning signs listed below and in our follow-up links should get your attention, and perhaps a visit to your doctor for tests.
“7.3 million were undiagnosed”

According to the American Diabetes Association, 10% of the US population has diabetes. “Of the 34.2 million adults with diabetes, 26.8 million were diagnosed, and 7.3 million were undiagnosed.” Nearly 1 in 4 people have diabetes and they don’t know it. Considering the damage diabetes can do to our body, having this disease and not knowing it can be dangerous.
